What "full service" means
Unlike Tier 1 (where you do everything yourself) and Tier 2 (where you supply data and we configure), Tier 3 means we handle the entire creative and technical pipeline. Here's a quick comparison:

The project process — five phases
From kickoff to launch, here's what happens at each stage:
1
Kickoff call & scoping
~1 hour call
We meet (video call or in-person if Auckland-based) to discuss your trail, your audience, your aesthetic preferences, and your timeline. We walk through what's possible and confirm the scope.
- You tell us about your organisation and trail
- We confirm the map area and walking route
- We agree on the visual style for the custom map illustration
- We send you a content template to fill in (descriptions, photos, audio)
2
Map creation
5–7 days
We create a custom illustrated map of your trail area. The approach depends on where your trail is:
- Auckland region: We source the base map (aerial photo or topographic) and create a custom illustrated version with your branding and aesthetic preferences.
- NZ-wide: You provide the base map (aerial photo, existing map, or sketch). We illustrate and polish it for use in the app.
- Style options: Photorealistic, illustrated, vintage, minimal — your choice. We'll show you 2–3 style samples before committing.
You review and approve the map before we move on.
3
GPS positioning work
Half-day to full day
We can come to your trail site if needed (Auckland region by default; elsewhere quoted separately) and walk the route with GPS equipment. We capture:
- Exact GPS coordinates of every trail stop
- Walking path waypoints (for accurate trail path drawing)
- Locations of toilets, bins, and other utility markers
- Map corner coordinates (for tile calibration)
This on-site visit ensures pin-perfect accuracy — no guessing from aerial photos.
⚠️
Easy Mapping
A lot of the time coordinates can be obtained from an online source such as Google Maps so we don't need to intrude on site.
4
Configuration & branding
3–5 days
At our studio, we configure the entire app using the data we've gathered:
- Apply your logo, branding, and labels
- Split the custom map into tiles
- Set GPS bounds with field-verified accuracy
- Place every pin with on-site coordinates
- Draw the trail path with real walking waypoints
- Link all images and audio files
- Configure any layers, password protection, anti-copy settings
- Generate a preview deployment on our test server
5
Review, revision & launch
2–4 days
We send you a password-protected preview link. You test on your phone, walk the trail, and send us feedback. Four revision rounds are included — we'll iterate until you're happy.
Once approved, we install the app on your hosting (we'll need temporary access, or we can do this together on a video call). The app goes live at your URL.
You receive:
- The live URL
- Your admin portal URL and password
- A PDF copy of the A3 trail map printout
- A handover video call walking you through the admin portal
What we need from you
Even though we're doing most of the work, we still need some things from you to make this successful:
Essential
- Your trail content — pin locations and titles, descriptions, artist/author names, year/date for each stop.
- Photos of each stop — one per stop, ideally square JPGs. We can also take these if we do an on-site visit (small extra cost).
- Your logo — PNG with transparent background, ~400×100 px.
- Access to your trail site — for the on-site GPS field work. If your site has access restrictions, opening hours, or requires permits, please arrange these.
- Hosting details — cPanel login, or a note that you'd like to do the final upload together.
- Preferred admin password — pick something strong.
Optional
- Audio guides — MP3 files, one per stop. If you don't have these, the app works fine without.
- Existing map or sketch — if you have any existing map of your area (even a hand-drawn one), it helps us understand your perspective.
- Brand guidelines — if you have a brand style guide (colours, fonts, tone of voice), share it so we can match.
- Reference trails you like — links to other trail apps or maps you find inspiring.
- Walking route preference — if there's a specific order you want visitors to walk in, let us know.
⚠️
Lets Make It Your Map
Lets us know what your thinking - we will do our best to make it happen.
About the custom map illustration
One of the key differences between Tier 2 and Tier 3 is that we create a custom map for you, rather than using whatever map image you supply. Here's what that involves:
Style options
During the kickoff call, we'll discuss your preferred visual style. Common options include:
- Photorealistic — based on aerial photography, colour-corrected and labelled.
- Illustrated — hand-drawn or digitally illustrated map with a distinctive artistic style.
- Vintage / heritage — sepia or aged-paper aesthetic with traditional cartographic elements.
- Minimal / modern — clean lines, simple labels, contemporary colour palette.
- Topographic — contour lines/elevation data is currently Auckland only (unless you can provide the data) and has an additional charge, ideal for nature reserves and walking tracks.
What's included
- 2–3 style samples before we commit to the final look
- One round of major style revisions
- Final map delivered as a high-resolution image, split into tiles and ready for the app
- You own the final map artwork — you can use it on signage, print materials, and your website
Source map options
For the base data we build the custom map from:
- Auckland region: We source base map data ourselves (LINZ aerial imagery, council GIS data, or licensed topographic data — included in your tier price).
- NZ-wide: You provide a base map (aerial photo, existing map, or sketch). If you don't have one, this depends on the region and data source - talk to us and we will see what can be done.
⚠️
Mapping Sources Outside Auckland
We document the actual sources and any licence-pass-through costs so you know what to expect. I just haven't made enough maps outside Auckland to provide more concrete direction here yet.
What you receive at handover
When the project is complete and your trail is live, you'll receive:
- Live URL — your trail at
https://yoursite.co.nz/trail/, fully functional and ready to share.
- Admin portal access — at
https://yoursite.co.nz/trail/?mode=admin, with your chosen password.
- Custom map artwork — the full-resolution image files, yours to use on signage, brochures, and your website.
- A3 PDF trail map — print-ready, generated from the app, suitable for physical handouts.
- Handover video call — ~30 minutes walking you through the admin portal, showing you how to make content updates, generate PDFs, and publish changes.
- Source files archive — a ZIP of all the source files (config, data, tiles, audio) so you have a backup.
- 1 year of priority support — email and phone support for any technical issues, content update help, or questions.
Ongoing support & updates
What's included in your 1-year priority support
- Email and phone support (response within 1 business day, usually faster)
- Help with admin portal questions
- Free app updates as they're released (we'll install them for you, or you can)
- Bug fixes (if anything breaks)
After year 1
Your annual licence covers continued app updates and email support. Update installation is done yourself, the admin panel walks you through it (see the Tier 1 guide for the process).
Major changes / additions
If you want significant changes after launch — new layers, restructured trail, replacing the map image, adding live streaming — these are quoted separately at NZ$120/hour. Email us for a quote.
⚠️
That's It!
Let's do this.
Ready to start?
The first step is a kickoff call. We'll discuss your project, confirm scope, and answer any questions you have before we begin.
📧 Email us to book: info@digitaleuan.com
🌐 Or visit: digitaleuan.com
Include in your email:
- Your organisation name
- Your trail location (so we can confirm Auckland-region vs NZ-wide)
- Roughly when you'd like to go live
- Any questions you have
We'll respond within 1 business day to book your kickoff call.
💡
Want to upgrade to a Custom Build? If during our discussions it becomes clear you need custom features (multi-site, white-label, custom integrations), we can scope a Tier 4 project instead. The work done in Tier 3 scoping carries over.
